Zenmed Reviewed – Is it really the Ultimate Acne Treatment?
Acne sucks, no two ways about it. Thus, it comes as no surprise that many people with acne have turned to Zenmed for help. It is after all a "total acne treatment" that comprises herbal capsules, cleansing gels and maintenance gels plus, it is said to work fast. You cannot deny that the idea of treating acne both topically and internally is a pretty good and enticing one. Moreover, there is no lack of positive reviews of Zenmed on the web. Thus, Zenmed seems like the obvious choice, but is it?
What is Zenmed?
The Zenmed Derma Cleanse System is a three-step system used to prevent and treat acne. Created for all skin types, it includes an herbal detoxifier supplement, a cleanser and a medicated acne treatment. According to Zenmed's website, you can expect to see results after about 10 days of consistent use with best results occurring after four to six weeks.
How Does Zenmed Work?
Zenmed claims to strengthen the body's ability to fight off acne breakouts and gets rid of blemishes that are left behind by inflammation. The herbal capsules are internal skin cleansing agents that work through the proper regulation of the body's hormonal levels. The cleansing and maintenance gels work like facial cleansers, regulating the skin's moisture levels. If you've read any of my other reviews you will likely know that I always recommend targeting the underlying health cause of acne rather than just the external symptoms and often recommend a combination of both, so I do have to commend Zenmed on targeting both ends of the acne treatment scale. I'm not sure how effective the herbal capsules will be if not used in conjunction with a healthy diet, but it's definitely great to see products looking at this angle.
What goes into Zenmed?
There are many ingredients used in the Zenmed Derma Cleanse system. Here are just some of them:
- Acne gel: Salicylic acid, purified water, Witch Hazel distillate, Vegetable Glycerin
- Herbal capsules: Neem, Chaste Tree, Honeysuckle, Chamomile, Red Dahlia
- Facial cleansing gel: Sage, Chamomile, Rosemary, Yarrow, Horsetail, Vitamin C, Sodium Benzoate
Many of the herbs in the capsules have long histories in Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, a system of medicine native to India. Some of the ingredients found in Zenmed have also been proven to be effective for treating acne specifically but there are many others that are primarily for alternate uses. For instance, Witch Hazel and Chamomile can be effective cleansers but there is no scientific evidence yet showing that the other ingredients such as Yarrow Root, Sage and Rosemary can help treat acne in any way. They are common herbs so probably won't cause any damage but the positive effect these particular ingredients will have for acne, if any, will likely be very small.
Reviewing Zenmed Effectiveness
As mentioned, there are many positive reviews of the product although some of these comments seem rather suspicious because they are a repeat of comments made in other forums. One positive indication is that there is very little negative feedback other than it sometimes just doesn't work. At the very least, I haven't come across any instances where it made things worse so that's always a good thing.
In my opinion, the Zenmed Derma Cleanse, like most other acne treatments, is most likely going to help minimise acne development in the skin for mild suffers. However, like most other treatments, it probably won't be suitable as a sole treatment for more severe cases of acne. In either case, acne is still a symptom of internal pH balance issues combined with a susceptibility to infection, so product will definitely be most effective when used with a balanced diet.
THE POSITIVES
- Natural ingredients. I particularly like how they clearly present the treatment as a "naturally-based product" and don't claim to be All Natural, which almost no products are.
- No side effects. This isn't surprising because the product is made primarily of herbs that have been used for thousands of years.
- Easy to use. Anyone who has used something like Proactiv will have no problems with this product.
- 60-day money back guarantee
THE NEGATIVES
- Slow results: Contrary to Zenmed's claim, many users say they only noticed results after using the treatment for three months.
- Lack of scientific research: Many of the ingredients found in Zenmed ease the symptoms of acne but do nothing for the root cause of the problem. Effective acne-treating ingredients like Silicol Dioxide or Inflacin are not used in Zenmed.
- The price. Like most acne treatments, Zenmed is based on a repetitive supply costing around $80-100 for every 2-4 months. It's fairly consistent with Proactiv, so I guess that's something, but like Proactiv it will probably require ongoing use for an extended period of time. The bills will add up.
- The makers of Zenmed recommend that you do not use their capsules for more than six months at a time but do not say why. So just be careful!/li>
Overall, as far as acne reviews go, I think that Zenmed is a fairly good option as a treatment of mild acne symptoms – definitely better than some of the other creams I've reviewed in the past. Like always, though, sufferers with mild cases will probably see the best results from this product, and like always, it certainly will not be effective for everyone.
