Blackhead Blemish Pimple
Cause of Oily Skin Blemishes
Oily skin blemishes can be cause for several reasons. Let's look at what are the most common reasons and then How to Heal Oily Skin Blemishes.
**Oily Skin Blemishes
Pimples, blackheads and whiteheads are more likely to occur in people with oilier complexions. Excessive oiliness is actually one of the causes of those kinds of blemishes. So, first let's look at what causes excessive oiliness.
The oils present on the skin's surface are produced by the sebaceous glands located in the skin's dermis layer. The medical term for the oil produced by the sebaceous glands is sebum.
**Too Much Oil Cause
Overproduction of sebum or overactive sebaceous glands is sometimes the cause of oily skin. On the other hand, using a harsh cleanser that strips the skin's natural oils can stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce even more sebum.
Poor hygiene is not a cause of excessive oiliness. The only conditions caused by poor hygiene are seen in third world nations.
Oily skin is not the only cause of pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. Inflammation, oxidation, and overgrowth of the P acnes bacteria are also involved.
**Other Causes
There are many things that can cause inflammation. They include eating certain foods, drinking sugary beverages and exposure to allergens, irritants and toxins.
The cosmetic industry in the US is very poorly regulated in terms of the ingredients they can include in the products you use on your face and body every day. Many of them are common allergens, irritants and toxins that can trigger inflammation and cause blemishes.
**Oxidation Problem
Oxidation is involved in blackheads specifically. Dead cells and the keratin they contain become oxidized and turn black. It looks like dirt, but it's not.
Over-growth of the P acnes bacteria may be worsened by taking antibiotics or by using antibiotic ointments. Research indicates that the bacteria have become more resistant, because of the over-use of antibiotics.
Other medications can cause excessive oiliness and acne. Steroid medications are examples.
Natural hormonal changes could also be involved in causing inflammation and irritation of the sebaceous glands. The sebaceous glands are located within the pores. At the base of each pore is a hair-producing follicle, although not all follicles produce hairs.
During puberty, hormonal activity stimulates the hair-producing follicles, which in turn can cause irritation and inflammation of the sebaceous glands. The result is an inflamed pore, what we call a pimple or a whitehead.
**Diet Cause
Eating a lot of greasy, fatty foods could be a cause of oily skin. Sebum is composed of fat.
Working in a kitchen seems to sometimes contribute to blemishes, although the connection has not been studied. It could still be related to the foods that a person eats.
**Wrong Skin Care Products
The use of shampoo, shower gel, makeup or lotions containing petrolatum, mineral oil or paraffin is sometimes the cause of oily skin, pimples and whiteheads. Those ingredients are not compatible with sebum. They clog the pores, which leads to inflammation as perspiration and sebum cannot be released through them.
So, those are the underlying causes of excessive oiliness and the related blemishes. Now, you need to learn what to do about it.
