Use of Paintless Dent Removal
Dents, everyone hates it. It unsightly, reduce the value of vehicles and even affect a symbol of status for certain people. The majority people are hesitant to get these blemishes repaired because everyone knows that an auto body shop is cost too much. But, if we only knew that an option generally costing 2/3 lower than the traditional method were available, we'd think twice about living with that car scar.
Paintless dent removal (pdr) is a procedure where minor dents and dings can be detached by using dedicated tools that let a dent to be pulled up without worrying the paint surface. Access is obtained on the offended panel, and with these exceptional tools and dent is massaged away with carefully placed pushes or pulls. If the paint is intact, the dent isn't too prolonged (deep), and access allows, it can be fixed with pdr.
There are two steps that a dent can be fixed through the paintless technique:
- Access is obtained at the back of the dent on any given panel and pressure is used via a dedicated group of metal rods until the dent is pushed flat again.
- If access is inadequate behind the panel, it may be possible to fix a dent applying special glue. A plastic tab is repaired to the top of the dent applying this special hot glue. Once the glue cools, it sticks to the tab and the panel to be repaired. Gripping onto the plastic tab and pushing outward pulls the dent away. This technique is far less accurate and usually requires tapping down over-pulled areas of the dent.
Traditional body shops have to grind off the paint, use body filler, sand the body filler to redesign the panel flat again, primer, sand, paint, clear coat, and lastly wet sand and buff. With the quantity of work they have to do, it's no doubt why traditional body shops are costly.
Now, I'm not here to smash older techniques. I have the best respect for what they perform. I even worked for an auto body shop so I know how difficult their job is. I am simply trying to give details how paintless dent removal can be the best alternative to traditional body shops given the right situations. If in fact your paint done is disturbed and can't be corrected with a wet-sand and buff, a full service auto body shop is your great chance at a flawless repair.
Now, the whys:
Save money: Paintless dent removal is 1/3 to 2/3 cheaper than the old option for repairs. There are no equipments needed to do a PDR. Fewer supplies means less cost, and being that majority of paintless dent technicians are fully mobile, they don't have the pricey overhead of a appropriate body shop. This entirely means that the costs are a lot lesser for you.
Save worth: As in your vehicle's value. Everyone knows if your vehicle has been repainted, it lessens the value of your vehicle when you plan sell or trade it in. The integrity of a factory paint work is far greater to that of a repaint. Factory paint works are baked on at extremely high temperatures in above clean situations creating the best possible paint surface.
Save time: The traditional body shop, for little repairs takes three to five days to finish the work. Most paintless dent removal can be finished in a matter of hours, sometimes less than an hour. Again, being that PDR technicians are typically fully mobile, repairs can be completed at your home or work while you take care of your business. An added perk is that since you won't have your vehicle out for more than number of hours, you won't have to lease a car until repairs are completed, thus saving you bucks.
