Anti-blemish Clinique or jsut Clinique for oily skin?
Hey! I'm getting the three step clinique stuff for Xmas, and previously asked for the oily skin versions. However, I just discovered a whole anti-blemish scheme as well and don't know which would be better! I have oily skin with breakouts which the oily skin version is meant to help with...but the anti-blemish one (in the "miss clinique" section) would too, presumably..?

I think you should get the three step system from Clinique, Im getting it for Xmas too and I've taken their quiz on Clinique website and it helped me chose whihc product is better for me.

Why Skincare Experts Say Less Is More
Most women, and an increasing number of men are trying a large number of products and regimes to try to improve their skin and complexions. There are so many brands and so many individual products in the skincare market that we are all in danger of having sensitised skin, a condition which means the skin re-acts due to the over use and mixture of different products. Skincare routines have become more
complicated since the original '3 step' cleanse, tone and moisturise regime was first devised by Clinique in 1968. These days there are serums, exfoliators and treatments for every imaginable skin type, which can lead to confusion as well as huge costs.
Skincare experts claim that the market sector has increased by over 20 per cent since 2001, and is becoming increasingly segmented and specialised. But the same experts have always maintained the notion that 'less is more'. All you really need is an effective cleanser, a moisturiser with an SPF that is right for the skin type, and something to nourish skin at night. Overloading skin with too many different
products prevents absorption, which can result in blocked pores and irritation.
Skincare experts also believe that skin will feel the benefits from having a day off, once a week. That means a whole day away from all types of 'anti-aging' products - the skincare equivalent of a body detox.
So, how do you know if you're suffering from product overload?
The experts sya it's easy. If your skin is confused in any way at all, the manifestation is redness, spots, dryness, and irritation. It's far removed from an allergy, which is an extreme immune reaction. Overloading creates a more superficial sensitivity.
We can all avoid upsetting our various skin tones by using products created for your own specific skin type. If there is any doubt, a visit to a good facial specialist should point a person in the right direction towards products which will work for them alone. For example, if your skin is dry on the surface and oily underneath, it means your cleanser is too harsh. Skin should never feel taut. Check the skin surface, and forget whether it's oily or congested underneath. If the surface is dry, you need a
moisturiser formulated for dry skin.
Many women have a huge variety of brands on their bathroom shelf, and seem to ignore advice to use products from one label. The natural assumption is that they want us to buy from them only!
Experts say that we should try to stick to one label. Mixing lines is dangerous, they say. Products may contain high concentrations of conflicting 'active' ingredients that could cause the skin to re-act. There are many formulas that clash. Vitamin C is an unstable ingredient that can irritate, glycolic acid can burn skin, and benzoyl peroxide (mostly found in oxygenating treatments) can sensitise skin when combined with retinol or vitamin A. Try staying with a simple regime, and trying to stay with only one active ingredient at a time.
This is why it is safe to stay within one label, as the products are tested to be compatible with each other.
The solution to overindulged skin is simple. Calming the skin is essential in the fight against premature aging. It can be distressing for the complexion if you combine aggressive products, such as strong cleansers, exfoliators and other treatments that contain harsh ingredients. Sometimes this can help to speed up the process by causing irritation. The key is to choose products that match the skins needs. That may be no more than a simple moisturiser with good protective anti-oxidant technology.
More than anything, it seems the secret to well behaved skin lies in finding a philosophy that fits in with your lifestyle - and your skin - and sticking with it.
