Blotters Oil Tissues
Easy Marble Cleaning, Repairing And Care
Different coloured marbles are used in our homes and they look very attractive. But marble is a porous material so it gets easily stained. It is also etched by acid so we need to take care.
Marble Furniture
Marble furniture is mostly used by Royal family or Hotels or Motels. It looks awesome and the designs are very attractive. But as time pass they go dull. If we spill something on it then wipe out immediately. Use coasters under glasses to avoid the rings. Keep furniture dust free and use cotton duster for cleaning the marble.
Regular Cleaning
For cleaning always use cotton cloth and wash its surface with warm water. Using chamois is good for cleaning as it never leaves streaks on surface. Once a year wash the marble with mild detergent solutions.
By applying colorless wax we can protect the marble surface but it is not consider good if you do not know how to apply it. Also never use this for white marble because as time pass it tend to yellow. Marble sealer is another alternate to protect the surface from stains.
Special Cleaning
Marble can be cleaned by any marble cleaners. These cleaner are available according to the types of marble. Before using the marble cleaners read the instruction and then proceed. These cleaners are easy to use, and will never damage the marble. By polishing with Putty powder one can remove etched surfaces on the marble.
Stain Removal
To remove stains make a poultice of napkin, paper towel, blotter, or facial tissue – “white absorbent materials”. Mix with chemical as per stain – see below, to make paste soft mix whiting with chemical. Apply this on stain and leave it for 1 to 48 hours according to the type and age of stain. Cover it with plastic wrap to keep mixture wet. If result is not satisfactory then reapply it.
- Organic Stains:
To remove organic stains of paper, tea, coffee, soft drinks, and use above poultice and soaked with 20 % peroxide - hair bleaching strength with few drops of ammonia. Follow the same procedure as I mention in the above paragraph.
- Oil Stains:
Butter, hand cream or lotions are the reason for oil stains. Oil stains are bit dark and very hard to remove. So do not keep it as it is. Quickly spread absorbent fine powder like whiting or corn starch. Keep it for few times and brush it to remove. If require then reapply it. After 24 hours start applying this removal solvents – scrub with hot, detergent foam solutions and wipe with brush. Wiping with ammonia also remove the oil stains.
If it does not works then make poultice (above) mixed with acetone or dry cleaning fluid. Keep windows open to remove fumes and do not use this mixture near to the flame also do not keep it for long time.
- Rust Stains:
Keeping metal items for long time can cause the rust stain on marble surface. To remove the rust stains use the any rust stain remover available in market. But do not keep it for long time as it will harm the surface. Before using any rust stain cleaner read the manual carefully
These tips are very generally used by everyone. But if you are not comfortable with cleaning then I advise you to hire a cleaning service agent for better services. It easy to get cleaning service in London area and they are charging according to the cleaning areas.
